J-CARDについて：About J-Card Jacket

① 概要・基本仕様

カセットテープの典型的なジャケットです。かつて日本では「インデックス・カード」と呼ばれていました。
｢表紙｣・｢背｣・｢裏表紙｣の3面構成カードを横から見るとアルファベット｢J｣の形に折りケース内側にセットするため、｢J-CARD｣と呼ばれています。

This is a typical cassette tape jacket, which used to be called an “Index Card” in Japan.
The card consists of three sides: the widest Front, Back(Flap), and Spine. When viewed from the side, it is folded into the shape of the letter ‘J’ and inserted into a plastic case, which is why it is called a “J-CARD.”

広い表紙にメインビジュアル、背にアーティスト名、裏表紙に曲名やクレジットが一般的です。
｢カセット本体｣+ ｢J-CARD｣+｢Pケース｣をセット後、オーバーラップ(キャラメル)包装が標準となります。

The largest Front side is typically used for designing the jacket and images, while the Spine side is used for the artist name and title, and the Back side is used for text such as song titles and credits. After setting the “Cassette” + “J-CARD” + “Plastic case” together, overlap wrapping will be standard.

③ パネル追加 (+1,+2,+3,+4,+5)

歌詞カードの代わりとなる仕様です。
歌詞などにスペースが必要な場合、別紙の代わりにJ-CARDの最も広い｢表紙｣を拡張して、プラケース内に折り畳みが可能です(下記画像参照)。この追加は最大｢+5｣パネルまで対応しております。

If you need a large space for lyrics, liner notes, etc., instead of inserting a separate sheet, you can add the widest front section of the J-CARD and fold it to insert it into the plastic case (see image below). This additional specification supports up to “+5” panels and full-color printing on both sides.

④ 印刷の向きについて

一般的にJ-CARDジャケットは背に対して右が表紙・左が裏表紙となります。
プラケースに入れた際、裏表紙の向きがカセットレーベル面と逆だったり、背のタイトルが逆向きだったりします。

印刷向きの違いにはパターンがあり、市販ブランクテープとミュージックテープの２つのタイプに分けられます。

表紙
ブランド名や商品名などは横向きにデザインされています。
商品・メーカーによって上下逆もあります。

背
表紙の向きと同じ配置が多いです (逆の場合もあります)。
プラケースに入れて立てた際は下部から上部へ読む配置になり、ミュージックテープとは逆向きになります。

裏表紙
カセットレーベル面と合わせた向きにデザインされています。
市販ブランクテープはこちら側をメインにして商品名など記載、表紙はインデックス仕様(曲名を書き込む行)が主流です。

表紙
かつては表紙を縦にしたデザインが主流でした。最近は横向きデザインも多数あります。

背
プラケースに入れて立てた際、タイトルを上部から下部へ読めるデザインが主流です。

裏表紙
欧米のリリース案件は、裏表紙とカセットレーベル面が逆向きのデザインが主流です。向きを合わせたデザインも多数あります。

⚫︎結論として
ミュージックテープのJ-CARDは、プラケースに入れて棚に縦に立てて複数のカセットを並べた際、背のアーティスト名やジャケットが読みやすいようにデザインされています。

よって、テキストやアートの向きに厳格な正しい向きはなく、様々な向きにデザインされています。

⑤ WORKS

⑥ U-CARD

J-CARD同様に｢表面｣・｢裏面｣・｢背｣の3面から構成されるカードをプラスティックケースに挿入する仕様ですが、｢表面｣と｢裏面｣が広い同じサイズとなります。
横から見るとアルファベットの「U」の形のように折ることから｢U-CARD｣と呼ばれています。文字要素などが多い場合、J-CARDの追加パネル仕様とは異なったジャケット対応となります。ケースに挿入する際、プラスティックケース内部に2つの突起が無い、オプション追加の「No Pin」仕様ケースのみ対応が可能となります。

Similar to J-CARD, this specification involves inserting a card composed of three sides—“front,” “back,” and “spine”—into a plastic case. However, the ‘front’ and “back” sides are the same size and are larger. When viewed from the side, it is folded into a shape resembling the letter “U,” hence the name “U-CARD.” When there is a large amount of text or other content, it requires a different jacket design compared to the J-CARD’s additional panel specification.When inserting into the case, only the optional “No Pin” specification case—which lacks two protrusions inside the plastic case—is compatible.
